WiseOnes Australia - Gifted Education and Educational Testing
Gifted is an innate potential created by a complex brain structure. It can be nurtured with love and interesting activities and suitably challenging learning experiences. Talented is the adult expression of this potential at a level significantly higher than other adults.
In sport this would be State grade and above. In academia this would be a Masters or PH.D, in business perhaps corporate leadership and in the Arts it would be performance at an exhibition level. Gifted does not always translate into Talent. Personality, attitudes, opportunities and social conditions such as war or poverty may interfere in its development.
WiseOnes is a school based opportunity, a catalyst for talent development in early life. The child needs the school to take up the opportunity. That is the chance element in the child’s life – out of the child’s control even if they need the support very much.
Some characteristics that may help you decide whether this is relevant for your child:
Some characteristics of children who have high potential and may be fast learners. No child will show all of these. High Potential does not mean in every area. Very, very few have that. The higher the IQ the more scattered the ability scores.
There are six types of Gifted Children- good in class, creative/disruptive, hidden due to peer pleasing, antisocial, learning disability, self directed needs a coach. The first and last are easy to identify , most of the others are missed in schools. Prof M.Neihart at 11th Asia Pacific Gifted Conference, Sydney 1010

If your child fits several of these categories then it would be wise to do the free try-out to check out their real potential. There is one on this site but do the one at school too,. If the results are outstanding then a Psychological test by a member of the Gifted Services Association is recommended. Not all psychologists understand the gifted. www.giftedservices.asn.au
